Núcleo de Experimentação Coreográfica – NEC – began its activity in 1993 through regular meetings between the artistic community.
In 1997 became a non-profit cultural association, that aims to support the artistic creation in performing arts; stimulate the investigation in choreographic processes; spread the contemporary dance and its agents, keeping an active role in reflection, projects, documentation and creative dinamics in the city of Porto.
Right now it is managed by a group of artists and people from different areas. NEC develops activities that promote research and activate colaboration processes between artists, public, institutions and communities.
With 21 years of existence, NEC is a structure in permanent evolution, that keeps a strong bond and dialogue with the context in different means of action such as creation, experimentation, education, research, production and intervention in public space.
NEC has already colaborated with a great number of national and international artists, keeping the interest in bringing together different generations.
NEC was directed by Ana Figueira (1993 – 2006) and Joclécio Azevedo (2006 – 2011).
NEC is a member of REDE – Associação de Estruturas para a Dança Contemporânea, and Plateia – Associação de profissionais para as Artes Cénicas.
